Rajasthan govt accepts resignation of Law Minister’s son as AAG

Over a month and a half after he submitted his resignation as the Additional Advocate General (AAG), the Law Department on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Manish Patel, son of Law Minister Jogaram Patel.
A day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address in Jodhpur at the concluding ceremony of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Rajasthan High Court on August 25, Manish had announced his resignation saying he had expressed to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, “his unwillingness to work further as the AAG due to personal difficulties”.

The Congress had been objecting to his appointment, accusing BJP of nepotism as Manish’s father Jogaram Patel is the law minister.
On September 24, The Indian Express had highlighted how Manish’s resignation was yet to be accepted even after a month since his resignation and that he continued to appear for the state. Manish had been appointed as an AAG on March 12 this year and in June, he was assigned matters related to Panchayati Raj, Rural Development, Personnel, Public Works Department, etc.
In August, the Congress had raised the issue of the appointment of government lawyers – Manish in particular – in the Assembly. Over the course of Congress’s protests, MLA Mukesh Bhakar was suspended from the session and then for a six-month period for refusing to leave the House, with BJP defending Manish’s appointment. The Congress party had also alleged that Speaker Vasudev Devnani did not want to have a discussion on the subject in the House.

In response to Manish submitting his resignation, his father Jogaram had said in August that perhaps his son’s own practice might have been affected by his appointment as the AAG and that’s why he resigned.
