New airport terminal, e-buses — what Jaipur got in the budget

String of infrastructure projects announced, from ropeways in forts to ultra fitness centre to development works in the Walled City

A string of infrastructure projects for Jaipur including ropeways in forts, new airport terminal, an ultra fitness centre, development works in the Walled City, and several road construction and renovation works were announced in the Budget for 2024-25 presented by Finance Minister Diya Kumari on Wednesday.

About Rs 165 crore will be spent on the construction and renovation of roads in Assembly segments represented by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Finance Minister Diya Kumari. Expenditure to the tune of Rs 75 crore has been earmarked for roads in various wards of Vidyadhar Nagar, an area in Diya Kumari’s Assembly segment. Around Rs 90 crore has been allocated for roads in the Mansarovar-Sanganer area.

Besides electric buses for Jaipur city, the government has also planned to construct ropeways for increased tourist attraction at Amer, Jaigarh, and Nahargarh forts. Given the long-pending demand for the development work at the Walled City in Jaipur which has bagged the UNESCO World Heritage City tag, the finance minister announced that a Jaipur Walled City Heritage Development Plan will be drafted with Rs 100 crore works in the plan.

A state-of-the-art ultra fitness centre will be established for the convenience of players at the SMS Stadium, Jaipur. With the rise in traffic in Jaipur city and looking at the future requirements, Diya Kumari announced that a feasibility report and Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared for the construction of elevated road from Ambedkar Circle to OTS Chauraha and from OTS Chauraha to Jawahar Circle in Jaipur.

More than Rs 200 crore has been allotted to the Sanganer flyover to Chauradiya petrol pump in Jaipur and for an elevated road from Collectorate Circle to Rajmahal Square in Jaipur.

With an aim to increase the terminal capacity of Jaipur airport from 50 lakh passengers per year to 70 lakh, a new terminal will also be built in the city.

For Jodhpur, a Greenfield Expressway will be built which will connect big cities like Jaipur and Ajmer. While presenting the budget, Diya Kumari announced the establishment of a handicraft park in Jodhpur and a spinal injury centre in Jodhpur Medical College. For rural students, about 13 colleges have been upgraded from UG to PG.
