Telangana, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh Coronavirus Highlights: The number of novel coronavirus infection cases shot up to 2,64,142 in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday with 9,996 fresh cases being reported in the last 24 hours, the state government bulletin said. With 82 new deaths, the overall death toll now stands at 2,378 in the state.
Also, 9,499 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours after they recovered from the viral infection, making it a cumulative of 1,70,924 recoveries so far. The state now has 90,840 active Covid-19 cases, the bulletin added. After 27,05,459 sample tests, the Covid-19 positivity rate climbed further to 9.76 per cent.
Meanwhile, Telangana reported 1931 new cases and 11 deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 86,475 and the death toll to 665. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the virus hotspot in the state, witnessed a considerable dip in the number of fresh infections. The total number of people who have recovered from the infectious disease so far stood at 63,074, while 22,736 were under treatment.

A "focused testing" strategy to detect COVID cases early was paying dividends as Andhra Pradesh succeeded in keeping the peak positivity rate below 20 per cent, while "rigorous clinical management" ensured the mortality rate remained below one per cent, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said on Tuesday. Addressing a videoconference Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted with Chief Ministers of various states on Tuesday, Jagan said the state's ultimate objective at any point in time was to save lives by providing correct and high-quality care and treatment, PTI reported.
10 COVID-19 patients died following a fire at a hotel-turned Covid Care Centre in Vijayawada early Sunday morning. Vijayawada Police Commissioner B Srinivasulu said 31 Covid-19 patients were being treated by Ramesh Hospital which had lodged them at Swarna Palace Hotel in Governorpet. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50 lakhs to the kin of the deceased, and ordered an in-depth probe into the accident.
Telangana reported 1,896 new cases in the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 82,647. Eight people, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), succumbed to the infection, pushing the toll in the state to 645. The 50-year-old cop had joined the police force in 1996 as a Reserve Sub-Inspector and was currently working in the Armed Reserve wing in Mahabubabad District.
