‘Stabbed 18 times, throat slit’: Teen neighbour kills 10-year-old girl at Hyderabad home, browser history had searches about committing theft

Police scanned CCTV footage and spoke to neighbours, and concluded that delivery persons or couriers could not have been involved since they are barred from entering the society

A 14-year-old class 10 student was detained on Friday evening by the police for allegedly murdering a 10-year-old girl in Hyderabad. A Special Operations Team apprehended the teenager, whose family lived next to the girl’s.

Police said the boy walked into the girl’s flat with a knife, intending to steal money. “He was aware that her parents would be away at work. On Monday, the girl was home alone as she had a holiday. When he was trying to steal from the house, she spotted him and raised an alarm. He stabbed her at least 18 times and, to make sure she was dead, slit her throat,’’ an official said.

Police checked the boy’s browsing history and found that he had searched for how to break open locks, how to enter a house unnoticed and escape, and how to break safes. After allegedly killing the girl, the boy ran into another neighbouring building and hid for at least 15 minutes before returning to his home.

On Thursday, a man who had noticed the boy’s suspicious movements, but did not think much of it at the time, informed police about it. The police went to the boy’s house and were told he was at school, where he refused to speak with them. The police then raided his house, where they found the bloodstained knife and clothes. They also found a paper on which he had written down how to pick locks and break into homes. Written with a pencil at the end of the letter were the words ‘Mission Don’.

The girl’s father, who found her lying in a pool of blood, told police that he came home around 12:30 pm to pick up lunch for his son, who was at school. He said he found the door partially open. His wife, who works at a medical lab, had left home at around 11 am.

Police scanned CCTV footage and spoke to neighbours, and concluded that delivery persons or couriers could not have been involved since they are barred from entering the society, and residents have to go down to collect their parcels.

Police concluded that someone who was aware of the couple’s work schedules and had access to the apartment must have broken into the house, but was surprised to find the girl, who stayed back at home that day.
