Cyberabad police on Saturday seized 3,500 kg of fake ginger-garlic paste from an illegal manufacturing unit in the city’s Katedan industrial area, and arrested one person. The police also seized raw materials such as gum powder, synthetic food colour, and packaging material worth Rs 2.8 lakh.

The Rajendranagar Special Operations team raided the manufacturing unit in Mailardevpally on a tip-off and seized the raw materials as well as packaged products. The unit was being operated by a resident Mohammed Ahmed, 34, who had been supplying the fake product under the brand names ‘Roshan Ginger Garlic Paste’ and ‘Mass Diamond’, said officials.

Ahmed’s license for marketing the product expired two years ago, the police said.

This is the second such recovery of fake ginger-garlic paste from the city in the last two weeks. In February, the Begumpet police arrested four people, including a Gujarat resident, and seized material worth Rs 5 lakh, after they raided a similar manufacturing unit in Rajendranagar.

According to the police, the accused allegedly manufactured adulterated ginger and garlic paste and marketed them as genuine products through small general stores in the city to earn quick money. The accused were also found to have established a chain of sellers to sell his spurious product.
