Centre, NSCN-IM hold Naga peace talks after 5 months

Talks between the Centre and NSCN-IM resumed after five months in a closed-door meeting in Dimapur on Thursday.  The Centre’s interlocutor for the Naga peace talks, AK Mishra, met a 20-member high-level NSCN-IM team, led by General Secretary Th Muivah.

“It was a positive meeting… it lasted for about two hours,” said an NSCN-IM leader, who was present at the meeting. Earlier in the day, outside the police complex  in Dimapur, NSCN(IM) leader Rh Raising Tangkhul told reporters that they had agreed to seek a solution “on the basis of the Framework Agreement”.

The Naga insurgency, rooted in Naga nationalism, is one of the oldest insurgencies in the country. Since 1997, the Centre has been engaged in talks with the Naga insurgent groups in a bid to sign a Naga peace accord.
