Lotus-like garba stage changes shape in hours, thanks to code of conduct

Credai is organising garba at Vaccine Institute Ground on Old Padra road of the city.

The district election officer of Vadodara on Tuesday served written instructions to Vadodara chapter of Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (Credai) to change lotus-like design of a stage it had set for garba during the Navratri festival.

Credai is organising garba at Vaccine Institute Ground on Old Padra road of the city. The stage prepared in the centre of the venue had flower petals, somewhat resembling a lotus, the election symbol of BJP.

“After receiving reports,we sent a team to inspect the stage. The team was of the view that the stage did not resemble a lotus. However, some in the team thought it did. Therefore,to pre-empt any controversy and a probable violation of model code of conduct,we have issued written instructions to organisers to alter the design of the stage,” Vinod Rao,district election officer and collector of Vadodara, told The Indian Express.

“We have videographed and photographed the stage. Since Navratri is to begin this evening, the stage was not used.

Hence,it did not constitute a breach (of model code of conduct),” Rao said, adding the organisers had changed the design of the stage after the election officer’s instructions.
