The admission process for first year of BCom in Panjab University closed late on Monday evening after two rounds of counselling and another two days of on-the-spot admissions.
Students flocked to the university as limited seats were available. Among the 11 colleges offering BCom in Chandigarh,GGDSD College,Sector 32,remained the first choice of most students, and all seats for all categories in this college were occupied by 2 pm. In the past few years, the college has been setting the highest admission cut-off for BCom. DAV College,Sector 10,and MCM DAV College for Women,Sector 36,were the other colleges in demand. Till 5 pm,students with ranks upto 1,500 in the admission test were called for admission and just about 150 total seats were left.
About three times more number of applications were filed than the seats available this year. BCom admissions coordinator S K Chadha explained that though the demand was high and the number of applicants was more than those of last year, many meritorious students waited till the last day for taking admissions.
