Twin sisters Nikita and Nikhila secured identical marks in their Class XII exams,and with their 95.6 per cent they found seats on the first day of admission to DU’s popular college SRCC.
That is not where the similarity ends,the 17-year-old sisters — who registered on June 7 under the SC quota — are now enrolled at SRCC’s coveted B Com (Hons) course.
On Tuesday,their parents,who live in Nagaon district in Assam,patiently waited for the girls as they shuttled between offices to complete their admission process.
“My daughters have asked us to be nearby and not go out of their sight,” said Jayanti Das,the proud mother.
Initially,she said,she was not sure of her daughter’s decision to study commerce in Class XII. The girls studied at Kendriya Vidyalaya,Nagaon.
“After seeing their performance in Class X,I had hoped that they would study science but they wanted to take up commerce. At that time,I didn’t know if they had made the right choice. But,today,I am glad to see that they got what they wanted,” Jayanti said.
Nikita is happy for the support she got from her parents. “In spite of getting 89 per cent in Class X,we were allowed to study commerce,” she said.
The thought is seconded by Nikhila. “Our parents have supported us despite facing financial constraints. Even today,we miscalculated the fees that had to be submitted but our parents told us not to worry,” she said.
Their father Pradeep Kumar Das,a businessman in Nagaon,said the girls always secured similar marks.
Jayanti,now,hopes that her daughters get accommodation in the college hostel.
“The college hostel would be the best place for them. I am not sure about the situation in private hostels and paying guest accommodation — they would be expensive,” she said.
