College authorities fail to submit compliance certificate to PU for fourth unit added in 2008

The ongoing internal dispute between the existing principal and the DAV College Managing Committee over the appointment of a principal to DAV College,Sector 10,for almost a year now has not only made the college suffer in academics and other areas but has now made it lose 70 seats in one of the most sought after undergraduate courses,BCom. The college was earlier offering 280 seats for BCom. This year the college authorities were so busy with their internal dispute that they failed to submit the compliance certificate to the University for the fourth unit that was added in the year 2008 and running for the last three years.

Based on the report submitted by the Inspection Committee appointed by Panjab University, which visited the college a few months ago,it was recommended to have an additional 10 permanent qualified teachers for various courses,BCom being one of them.

But the authorities hardly bothered to either make the appointments or submit a compliance certificate for the same within the stipulated time period. This resulted in withdrawal of 70 seats for BCom by the University this year and has left the college with only 210 seats. “Neither the management nor the officiating principal submitted the compliance certificate in time. Thus, the University has decided to withdraw the fourth unit of BCom. I will try my best to ensure that the decision is rolled back,” said the College’s principal,Dr B C Josan.

Though the University authorities are sceptical that the seats can be added once the merit list with allotment in respective colleges is prepared, they also expressed disappointment over the callousness of the college authorities, which did not respond to the repeated reminders issued by the University.

“As everything is online this year,it is almost impossible to make any changes in the admission process or add or remove any seat. Thus, now approaching the authorities will hardly solve any purpose,” said one of the senior officials at Panjab University.

With the provisional merit list for the BCom released by Panjab University on Tuesday,it was clearly indicated that admission for the course offered by the college would be done for 210 seats. The college, considered one of the top preferences for this undergraduate course, was running four units or sections with 70 seats each in BCom,offering a total of 280 seats.
