Noida police on Tuesday detained Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan in connection with a case filed against two of his colleagues, officials said. Ranjan is being questioned by the police.
High drama unfolded at the residence of the anchor in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram early on Tuesday morning when the Chhattisgarh Police too arrived there with a warrant for the news anchor’s arrest in connection with the alleged doctoring of a video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. In a tweet at around 6.15 am, Ranjan said officers from Chhattisgarh Police had reached his house to arrest him without informing the local police. Ghaziabad police were also present.
A post from the Twitter handle of the Raipur police replied to Ranjan’s tweet, stating: “There is no such rule to inform. Still, now they are informed. Police team has shown you the court’s warrant of arrest. You should in fact cooperate, join in investigation and put your defence in court”.

The Noida police subsequently took Ranjan for questioning regarding the complaint against his colleagues. The complaint was filed by one B R Venkatraman on behalf of Zee Media Corporation on Sunday at the Sector 20 police station against a former senior producer and a trainee producer.
“On 01.07.2022, they (accused) received a video feed from Asian News International (ANI) containing the press-statement of Congress leader Mr Rahul Gandhi where Mr Gandhi condemned the recent attack on his constituency office in Wayanad, Kerala by SFI workers. However, due to oversight and inadvertence, the aforesaid statement of Mr Rahul Gandhi was presented out of context in our show… which led to widespread protest against the company from various leaders and workers of the Congress party,” reads the complaint. The two employees have been terminated for their alleged negligence.
“In the given circumstances, the company has reasonable belief and suspicion that the aforesaid negligence and dereliction of duties may have been committed by (the producers) knowingly and intentionally in connivance with each other,” reads the complaint.
Speaking about the incident on Tuesday morning, Abhay Kumar Mishra, circle officer (Indirapuram) said, “We received a call from residents of the building complaining that 15-20 men snatched the phone of the security guard and made him sit in a corner. These men then tried entering Ranjan’s house. We sent a team who then found that the men are from Chhattisgarh Police. They were not wearing uniforms and did not have name tags. There was chaos. After some time, Noida police came and said they will take Ranjan for questioning in a case.”
