The Delhi Police have booked two youths who allegedly tried to knock down an eatery owner and several others with their car, following an altercation.
According to the police, the incident took place in North Delhi’s Signature on Tuesday morning.
DCP (North) Manoj Kumar Meena said that the complainant, Ram Chand, 34, a resident of Pakistani Hindu refugee camp who runs a small eatery near Signature Bridge Road stated that the two young men came in an SUV around 8.30 am and asked for two glasses of water.
“Chand gave water to them and asked them to pay Rs 5. They refused to pay, which led to an altercation and subsequent assault,” added the DCP.
In a video of the alleged incident, the SUV can be seen swerving close to Ram Chand and several passers-by in an attempt to mow them down and taking sharp turns on the road and going the wrong way while making a U-turn, the police said.
Ram Chand was taken to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital where the doctor examined him but could not find any visible injuries.
“A case of criminal assault and rash driving was registered against the accused persons on Chand’s complaint,” the DCP added.
The vehicle owner of the Mahindra Nuvosport SUV was traced to one Mohd. Habib. “We are trying to trace the occupants in the car,” the officer said.
