A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death in Shahdara’s Geeta Colony late Friday after his scooter allegedly brushed past three pedestrians, the police said on Saturday.

The police received a call at 9.41 pm from a hospital in Laxmi Nagar reporting that a young man – who was later identified as Yash – with stab wounds had been brought in by passersby. Yash was declared brought dead at the hospital.

According to a preliminary probe, the altercation began near Geeta Colony flyover after Yash’s scooter reportedly grazed three pedestrians – Amaan, Lucky, and a 17-year-old minor. The three have been nabbed, said police.

A verbal argument soon escalated into a physical fight. “As the fight escalated, Lucky pulled out a pistol to shoot Yash, but couldn’t. As Yash began running, the three accused chased him. During the chase, Yash was stabbed in his lower back,” said Shahdara DCP Prashant Gautam.
Passersby rushed Yash to the hospital while his cousin, who was accompanying him, informed the family.

Yash’s family, residents of Rani Garden in East Delhi, suggested that there could have been an ulterior motive behind the attack, as he had prior enmity with Lucky over a woman. The police, however, ruled out the possibility, maintaining that Yash was attacked “on the spur of the moment”.

“My son was in a relationship… He had broken things off with the woman after he discovered that she was in a relationship with Lucky. But they continued to meet,” said Yash’s mother, Rakhi Sharma.

Meanwhile, 100 Rapid Action Force personnel, along with Geeta Colony police station personnel, have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
