Youth pours acid on woman in her Gurgaon home, daughter too injured

Rawat was rushed to a private hospital where she was given first-aid.

A 28-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter sustained burn injuries after the woman was attacked with acid by an unidentified youth at Dharam Colony in Palam Vihar, Gurgaon, on Monday afternoon.

According to police, the woman, Suman Rawat, a resident of Dharam Colony, has been working as a domestic help in Palam Vihar area for the last 10 years. Her husband is a security guard with a private company in Gurgaon. Police said on Monday afternoon, she was at home with her two children when an unidentified youth knocked on her door.

DCP (West) Sangeeta Kalia said, “When Rawat opened the door, the accused introduced himself as a plumber and said he was looking for one Rampal. When Rawat told him he had the wrong address, the youth threw acid on her.

Some of the chemical also fell on her daughter who was standing beside her.”

Rawat was rushed to a private hospital where she was given first-aid. From there, she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi. “The woman suffered 30 per cent burns on her chest and stomach. Her daughter suffered burns on her hand,” Kalia said.

Police said they were questioning the husband for leads on the youth who attacked her. A case under Section 326A (causing grievous hurt by throwing acid) IPC has been registered.
