Graffiti against Home Minister Amit Shah: Delhi Police arrests Youth Congress worker, court grants bail

The alleged defacement took place on August 21, the day Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress workers staged a sit-in at Parliament Street police station. Police sources said they are investigating if anyone else was involved in writing the slogans, along with Karan. Further investigation is underway.

Gandhi on August 21 staged a seven-hour protest demanding the registration of an FIR over pellet injuries suffered by a 19-year-old during the protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on July 20.

Gandhi was accompanied by the injured teenager, Sahil Lochab, who sustained a pellet injury to his right eye, and his mother. He had said that the registration of the FIR was the first step toward justice.

Gandhi had refused to leave until an FIR was registered. Congress workers also held a separate sit-in outside the gate of the DCP’s New Delhi office.

The Congress leader had also alleged that the FIR was registered only after a “final permission” was received from Home Minister Shah. “You should understand who was stopping the FIR. These policemen wanted to lodge the FIR, but brakes on justice were put from the top,” he had alleged.

The police later registered an FIR against unidentified people under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons and rash or negligent acts endangering human life.
