Delhi HC seeks Yasin Malik’s medical status report

In his plea, Malik said he has lost 14 kg “due to negligent and malafide acts of the respondents” which has led to “deterioration in his health”.

The Delhi High Court Friday sought the medical status report of Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, who was sentenced to life in a terror case, and also directed the Tihar jail superintendent to ensure that necessary medical treatment is provided to him.

During the hearing of a plea moved by Malik seeking access to medical treatment, his counsel Mohd Irshad Hanif, along with advocate Mirza Asad Beig, informed the court that he has been on a “hunger strike since November 1” in Tihar jail, leading to further deterioration of his condition.

A bench of Justice Anoop Mendiratta issued a notice and sought medical status report from the jail superintendent and kept the matter for consideration on November 11. Malik’s counsel submitted that it is “a very emergent situation… There is a very narrow gap between life and death”.
