The body of a middle-aged woman was found wrapped in a cotton mattress in Northeast Delhi,on Sunday morning. Police are still trying to identify the woman. The body has been preserved.
Police said the woman appeared to be in her 30s. There was no external injury mark on the body, police said.
It is difficult to say if the woman was raped before being killed. She was wrapped in a bedding, which was covered by gunny bags. There are no apparent injuries,so it is possible she was strangulated. We are waiting for the identity to be established, following which,a postmortem will be conducted. We have registered a case of murder, said Sanjay Jain,DCP (Northeast).
The body,Jain said, was first noticed by police patrol in the Yamuna Khaddar area, which ends at Shastri Park. The area forms the riverbed of Yamuna.
Police said the woman was wearing jeans and woollens. They have ruled out robbery as a motive for the murder. She had gold earrings and rings on,which were intact. It seems like a case of personal enmity or family feud. The body was disposed of recently; it was not decomposed, said a police officer.
The mattress and gunny bags have been seized and might be used for forensic purposes, the officer said.
In June this year, the naked body of a 23-year-old girl was found wrapped in a bed sheet in the same area.
Terming this to be a common modus-operandi,Jain said, the murderer and the victim usually know each other in such cases. They dump bodies in bags to hide the identity of both the victim and the accused, Jain said.
