A 20-year-old woman was killed after she allegedly jumped in front of a Metro train on Tuesday afternoon. The incident was reported from the Race Course Metro station.
Police said the woman was a student of Kalindi College and a resident of Delhi. The Metro driver saw the woman on the track and applied brakes but could not stop in time, police said.
“The driver applied the brakes but the woman had come under the train by then. She was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where she was declared dead on arrival,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railways) Sanjay Bhatia said.
“As seen from the CCTV footage accessed after the incident, the woman was standing on the platform for around half an hour before she jumped before the Metro train bound for Jahangirpuri. The train was approaching the Race Course station around 3.50 pm when she jumped before it.”
The reason for the suicide is yet unknown as no note was found on her. “She was identified with the help of the college ID found in her purse. We informed her parents on the contact details given in the ID card,” an officer said.
