Woman killed by son-in-law in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh over monetary dispute

The police said that according to the family, Sumit, 28, the son-in-law of Neetu, 50, shot her and fled. The police reached the hospital where the victim was admitted, where the doctors stated that she was in critical condition.

An attempt to murder case was registered against Sumit and a team was sent to Meerut in search of him. His phone was also put on surveillance. Sumit was nabbed when he was on his way towards Meerut on Sunday night, said the police.

Investigations revealed that Sumit, a Meerut resident, worked as a cook at a restaurant in Delhi’s Dakshinpuri area. He got married to Neetu’s daughter six years ago and has a six-month-old son with her. After marriage, there were regular arguments between Sumit and his wife. He had also lent Rs. 1.20 lakh to Neetu. Though she had returned some of it, Sumit and Neetu argued over the remaining amount and his relationship with her daughter.

The police said after another argument on Sunday morning, Sumit went to Neetu’s place and shot her.

Neetu succumbed to her injuries at the hospital on Monday morning. Her body was sent to the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Jahangir Puri, for autopsy and was later handed over to the family.

Investigations are on to find where the accused got the gun, said the police.
