The couple’s three-year-old daughter,Riya, was asleep in an adjoining room. Sachdeva’s uncle Dwarkanath later said: “Their 14-year-old son Saransh died three months ago after very high fever. They lived in E-Block in Moti Nagar before shifting to A-Block. Sonu opened a confectionery shop with a partner in July this year.”

Investigating officers are still to ascertain the exact sequence of events since Aarti told police that on seeing her husband being attacked, she became unconscious and fell on the bed.

“An hour later, she says she woke up to find her husband lying unconscious next to the bed, bleeding profusely from the head. She tried to move but found her own hands and legs had been tied,” a police officer said.

Police said Aarti told them that she tried to alert neighbours by hurling two empty buckets out of the bedroom window and shouting out for help.
