Art connoisseurs have an action auction-packed weekend coming up.

Art connoisseurs have an action auction-packed weekend coming up. More than 140 works of art will go under the hammer at auctions being held within a span of 48 hours,at venues that are 20 km apart. If on March 16,Dhoomimal Gallery hosts “Colours of Life: Freedom through Education” at Le Meridian,on March 18,Delhi Art Gallery (DAG) will organise “Art Loot”.

Uday Jain,director,Dhoomimal Gallery,says they have 74 works on offer,ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 45 lakh. The shortlist includes works by veterans such as FN Souza,SH Raza and MF Husain,and Subodh Gupta,Sudip Ray and Shamshad Husain among the contemporaries.

At “Art Loot”,on the other hand,the 75 works will be divided into three uniform lots. Lot One has 30 works of Rs 3 lakh each,the works in Lot Two are priced at Rs 7 lakh each,and Lot Three has 15 works at Rs 9.75 lakh each.

Kishore Singh from DAG says that Lot One includes a Krishen Khanna dry pastel and five prints of MF Husain,while Lot Two comprises works of Jamini Roy and GR Santosh,and Lot Three has MF Husain and Ganesh Pyne. A part of the proceeds from both auctions will be used for charity. Dhoomimal will make a contribution for underprivileged children and DAG will forward the funds to the NGO Khushi.
