Saturated with colour, quirky, and with a right mix of humour and melancholy,American filmmaker Wes Anderson’s films are critically acclaimed for having all the qualities of a wholesome entertainer. Now,movie buffs can enjoy a film festival which will showcase all of Anderson’s seven works in chronological order.

The American Center in collaboration with Cinedarbaar is organising a six-day film festival from December 16 called, the “Wes Anderson Fair”. The festival will kickstart with Bottle Rocket (1996) Anderson’s debut feature film, featuring Owen Wilson,Luke Wilson and Ned Dowd and also co-written by Owen. The film, which is the story of two Texan thieves, was a commercial failure. But it made it into Martin Scorcese’s top-10 favourite film list of ’90s (in a televised interview with late film critic Roger Ebert in 2000).

The filmmaker is best-known in India for his film The Darjeeling Limited (2007),starring Adrian Brody and Owen. The film will be part of the festival with a special appearance by Dilip Shankar, the casting director of the film and Charu Shankar, who acted in the film. “There is no special reason for hosting this festival. It is just that he makes fun and quirky cinema and we thought of celebrating his films through a festival,” says Supriya Suri,Founder,Cinedarbaar,a club for film enthusiasts.

Among his other films, which will be screened include The Royal Tenenbaums (2001),which was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Among his more popular films,Rushmore (1998) is about an eccentric teenager who is in love with the same school teacher as his industrialist friend. While Fantastic Mr Fox was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Animation category,Anderson’s 2012 feature Moonrise Kingdom was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

To make the festival a complete Anderson experience, movie quizzes and interactive trivia sessions will follow every film screening. There will also be Wes Anderson badges and Christmas postcards being handed out to winners of the quiz.

The festival takes place between December 16- 21 at American Center,Kasturba Gandhi Marg. Contact: Cinedarbaar: 9958301195
