The city could get some relief from the scorching heat with the weatherman predicting rains over the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to fall from 43 degrees Celsius to 39 degrees with light rainfall expected over the next two to three days, a Met department official said on Friday.
The weather official said the weekend prediction has nothing to do with the monsoon, which still has some days to hit Delhi, but a Western disturbance over the Arabian Sea could bring light rainfall to the city.
The forecast came on a day when the city recorded a maximum of 43 degrees Celsius, which was five degrees above normal. To add to the discomfort, the minimum was 32.4 4.6 degrees above normal.
The power situation in Delhi worsened further on Friday as state-run NHPC cut 200 MW of supply to Reliance Infrastructure-backed discom BSES for failing to pay outstanding dues of over Rs 200 crore.
The cut in supply came as electricity demand touched an all-time high of 5,330 MW.
Contrary to the BSES claim that the cut in supply did not result in any shortage, the areas where the company distributes power faced loadshedding for varying durations.
South Delhi was worst affected after a major transformer of Delhi Transco Limited developed technical snags, hampering power supply to almost all localities.
