Irked by irregular water supply and lack of clean drinking water in their hostels since the past few months, women residents in the Undergraduate Hostel for Girls (UGHG) in Dhaka Housing Complex of Mukherjee Nagar broke curfew and took to the streets to protest late Saturday night, following which Water Minister Kapil Mishra met them and accepted their demands.

The Rajiv Gandhi Hostel for Girls (RGHG), in the same complex, has also been facing similar problems since September last year. Mishra promised the students that he would resolve the issue. “The internal water pipeline network, which broke two months ago will be repaired. For the next two days, we will send water tankers to the hostels.” (With inputs from Aditi Vatsa)
