The East Municipal Corporation has been househunting for an official accommodation for its mayor Annapurna Mishra, who is currently operating from her private residence.
Inviting bids from people willing to rent out a house on a two-year lease, the corporations tender details the specifications: The house should be on an approximately 350-square-metre plot. It should preferably be close to an 80-foot-wide road. It should be a two-storey building in an area within the corporations jurisdiction.
In July, barely two months after the erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was trifurcated and the East civic agency was formed,a plot measuring 1.5 acre in Vishwas Nagar was selected to build the mayoral bungalow.
An inspection with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) was also conducted. But the construction process would take time.
Hence, the corporation has decided to take a rented property for two years that will serve as the mayors official residence. We will take a bungalow on lease. The financial bid will be open on October 9. The earnest money is Rs 30,000, the corporations Commissioner S S Yadav said.
This comes in the wake of the South corporation writing to the Union Urban Development Ministry to allot a bungalow meant for MPs to its mayor.
If East corporation manages to find a suitable house for Aggarwal,South corporations Savita Gupta will be the only mayor left in the Delhi without an official residence.
Before trifurcation, the MCD mayor used to live in a plush bungalow in Timarpur. This has now gone to North corporation Mayor Mira Aggarwal.
