The Delhi Police Thursday night arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Rinku, for allegedly murdering a 30-year-old man in south Delhi’s Kishangarh area.
Rinku, the owner of a local gym, had allegedly killed Hardeep Singh after the latter objected to the loud music being played at his gym.
Rinku was arrested from a friend’s residence in Mathura by a team of Delhi Police. “We are questioning Rinku and his associates,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Surinder Singh. “We had been tracking his movements through GPS locations of his mobile phone. After conducting raids in some hideouts in Mathura, we managed to arrest him from his friend’s house. We formally arrested him and we are questioning him,” said a police officer.
Prahlad, caretaker of the building where Hardeep was murdered Sunday, said the victim used to visit the gym owned by Rinku, located on the ground floor. “Hardeep had moved here two months ago and he lived on rent. He used to visit the gym owned by Rinku but stopped doing so after a fight with him,” said Prahlad.
“A woman friend of Hardeep’s also used to work out at the same gym. About a month ago, Hardeep accused Rinku and his associates of misbehaving with his friend. His friend also stopped visiting him here after that incident,” said Prahlad.
On the day of the incident, Rinku, along with a friend, had been drinking and playing loud music in the gym on the ground floor of the building, said police.
Fed up with the loud music, Hardeep went downstairs to confront the duo, said police. “He requested them to turn down the volume. But the two men lost their temper and began assaulting Hardeep.” However, Rinku allegedly kicked on Hardeep’s door and began to beat up the victim. He whipped out a pistol and shot Hardeep in the stomach at point blank range, said police.
Hardeep worked at the Consortium for Educational Communication at the Inter University Accelerator Centre in Vasant Kunj. The centre is affiliated to the University Grants Commission.
