The fifth accused in the Vivek Vihar murder case was arrested on Friday, police said. The man has been identified as Balwan, maternal uncle of the main accused Mona Duggal. Police said Balwan was roped in at the last minute.
Mona had disclosed Balwan’s name only after sustained questioning. Police said she wanted to protect him so that he could take care of his ageing mother.
Police have recovered 51 bangles,31 necklaces,nine chains,20 rings,four earrings,four bracelets,seven nose pins,10 wristwatches,83 silver coins and weapons including a toy pistol and knives.
“Mona Duggal, the prime accused in the incident, initially did not disclose Balwan’s name as she had sympathy for him since he is her maternal uncle. Balwan is suffering from tuberculosis and his wife abandoned him and registered a dowry case against him. Mona’s third uncle Ram Kumar is already in jail in a murder case. Mona had not disclosed Balwan’s name since she was concerned about his ageing mother and his son,” Additional CP (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said.
