After two UP policemen died in the clash between police and farmers in Bhatta Parsaul on Saturday, the district administration has decided revoke the arms licences of the villagers.

“The villagers have used the arms on police officers, with an intention to obstruct their duties,” said a police official. In Bhatta village,33 villagers have arms licences, whereas in Parsaul,18 villagers have been issued the licences.

Revoking of licence is being seen as the first step to keep the villagers “under control”. Officials, however, believe that most of the weapons used by the villagers are already illegal.

“The villagers have raised Rs 17 lakh and we have been informed that they have bought illegal arms from the fund,” said Rajeev Kumar,SHO,Dankaur.
