Vijay Dev sent to Chandigarh, Delhi gets new election chief

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the transfer order of Dev on December 15.

Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vijay Dev has been transferred to Chandigarh as the adviser to the Union Territory administrator. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, who was posted as the CEO in Arunachal Pradesh is expected to replace Dev in Delhi.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued the transfer order of Dev, a 1987-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer, on December 15. According to the order, Dev has been posted as the advisor with immediate effect. He will replace a 1983-batch AGMUT cadre officer, K K Sharma, who had joined the UT as adviser on April 15, 2011.

According to sources in CEO office, Dev was to be transferred to Chandigarh after Sharma completed his tenure in September. However, the MHA put Dev’s transfer on hold. The Election Commission of India (ECI), on December 4, wrote to the MHA about selecting Kumar, following which it requested the Union Home Secretary to issue the requisite order to appoint Kumar as Dev’s replacement.
