The body of the girl, who was allegedly strangulated, has been sent for an autopsy to ascertain if there are other assault injuries, according to the police.
According to the police, the girl had gone missing from a rented accommodation in the Devla village in the Surajpur police station area on April 7 and the body was found two days later. Two days after a two-year-old girl went missing from her home in Greater Noida, the police found her body stuffed in a backpack inside an empty house in the area. The police said both the accused and the victim’s family live in the same residential building.

Her mother said on April 7, when her husband was out for work, she had left the two-year-old at their first-floor home to get groceries from the market. When she returned, the toddler was missing and nobody had seen her. The police said even after several searches, the parents couldn’t find their daughter.
A day later, a case of kidnapping was lodged at Surajpur police station. Three police teams were sent to look for the girl but she wasn’t seen with anyone or in the CCTVs outside the building. Meanwhile, local residents pointed out to the stench coming from a house on the ground floor.
A team was sent to the house and they found it locked from the outside. The police broke in and found the girl’s body stuffed in a backpack. She had injuries near her neck and face. The accused had fled after the incident.
Additional DCP (Central Noida) Rajiv Dixit said, “The girl’s father had lodged a complaint. On Sunday, we received information about a foul smell coming from another room. The police and forensics team recovered the toddler’s body from a backpack”.
Both the suspect and the girl’s father were daily wage earners, he said.
The suspect is known to the victim’s family and is a resident of UP’s Ballia district. The police in Ballia have also been alerted and three teams from Greater Noida are tracing the accused, said officials.
The motive behind the killing isn’t clear yet.
