Those looking to use farmhouses in North Delhi as wedding venues may have to consider other options. The corporation has launched a drive against farmhouses that are flouting norms.

The Appellate Tribunal of Corporations has directed the North corporation to seal two farmhouses within 24 hours and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on the owners. In the order on Wednesday Additional District & Sessions Judge Ashwani Sarpal has ordered a detailed survey of farmhouses in the area and asked the civic agency to take action against farmhouses flouting norms.

The two farmhouses that have been sealed are on Rohtak Road. In the order, the court directed the owners to pay Rs 50,000 each to the corporation within 15 days and an additional Rs 5,000 each to Deputy Commissioner of Narela Zone Dharmendra Kumar for taking him to court just to harass him. The court also dismissed the contempt of court against Kumar.

The court order reads: “That the order of revocation of regularisation plan has been upheld so the construction of existing site has to be treated as unauthorised. Sale deed of the appellant says the land shall be used for agricultural purposes only but it has been used for commercial purposes. So,a copy of judgment has to be sent to concerned SDM and secretary revenue for initiating proceedings under Delhi Land Reforms Act for appropriate legal action. The corporation should identify officials who have stolen, concealed or destroyed the relevant records and strict departmental actions should be taken against them after suspending them as these officials have granted permission letters to the farmhouses illegally. Proceedings against the architect concerned, through whom regularisation plan was submitted, should also be initiated. DC should shall submit the action taken report within a week in respect of sealing action taken and in respect of disconnection of electricity and water supply and other status reports as and when directed. “

According to the director Press and Information,Yogendra Singh Mann, the court order is valid for the three corporations. “Action will be taken against those flouting norms and using their farmhouses for commercial purposes,” Mann said.

DC Narela zone Dharmendra Kumar said he has cancelled permission of 14 farmhouses on NH-1 and at least 10 farmhouses have been sealed on Rohtak Road. “We have identified around half a dozen illegal farmhouses in the area, which will be sealed this week,” Dharmendra Kumar said.
