The bodies of a man and a minor girl were found hanging from a tree at Bonta Park in Maurice Nagar, North Delhi, on Sunday morning.
Police said the bodies were discovered around 9.30 am by a beat constable, who was patrolling the area. The constable informed the police control room.

Police said the bodies were found hanging by two chunnies (scarves).

A letter written by the girl and addressed to the young man was also found, in which she had asked the man to either to marry her or end their lives, police said.

“The letter was found in the girl’s bag. The bag also had some clothes, which suggested that the two may have been planning to elope. However, it seems that they did not have much money. It looks like they ended their lives on Saturday night,” a police officer said.

While police said all evidence pointed to suicide, the post-mortem report would confirm if there was foul play involved.

The man has been identified as Roshan (21), a resident of Sawan Park. According to police, he worked at a factory in the Wazirpur Industrial Area. The girl, aged 14, was a student of a government school in Ashok Vihar, police said.

DCP (North) Sindu Pillai said investigation had revealed that the two were having an affair.
However, police said, the two families seemed to be unaware of the relationship. In fact, an officer said the family members of the girl’s family

addressed Roshan as bhaiya (bother).
Police said Roshan’s parents had arranged his marriage, which was supposed to take place on May 20. Roshan was last seen by his parents on Saturday morning, before leaving for the factory he worked in.
The girl, on the other hand, had not returned from school on Saturday. Her parents had gone up to the Bharat Nagar police station around 6 pm that evening and registered a missing person’s complaint, post which an FIR was filed, police said.
