Two constables arrested for bid to rape 14-year-old girl

Police said the constables allegedly attempted to rape the girl,while two others,aged 11 and 12,were made to wait outside.

Three days after the station house officer of Uttam Nagar was suspended for allegedly asking a 13-year-old gangrape victim to “show” how she was raped,two constables posted with the 3rd Battalion of the Delhi Police were arrested and dismissed from service for allegedly attempting to rape a 14-year-old girl in Northwest Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar area on Saturday evening.

A statement by DCP (Northwest) N Gnana Sambandan said,“The Delhi Police is issuing this press release with a deep sense of regret due to unpardonable criminal acts of two of its personnel. They have been dismissed on Sunday for attempting to sexually assault an underprivileged girl in the Mukherjee Nagar police

station area.”

The statement further said that “all steps are being taken to ensure that the case will be chargesheeted within a week”.

“Constables Amit Tomar and Gurjinder Singh have been dismissed to send a strong signal that harshest measures will be taken even against police personnel if found guilty of abusing women,children and weaker sections,” the statement said.

Police said the constables allegedly attempted to rape the girl,while two others,aged 11 and 12,were made to wait outside.

According to police,Tomar allegedly lured the minors with chocolates and money and took them in an auto-rickshaw to Singh’s staff quarters at the Kingsway Camp police lines.

The 14-year-old was taken to Singh’s room,where he was waiting. The other two girls were made to wait outside,police said.

While the constables were allegedly trying to rape her,the girl raised an alarm. Hearing her cries,the girls outside too started screaming for help,police said. A sub-inspector in an adjacent quarter heard the girls crying and made a PCR call.

“The 14-year-old was medically examined in Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital. An NGO representative from Sampoorna was immediately associated with proceedings and a case registered. A Special Investigation Team under the supervision of Pramod Kushwaha,Addl DCP (South District),has been constituted,” the police statement said.

The accused were produced before a Rohini court and sent to 14 days judicial custody.

The statement said,“The Delhi Police reiterates its resolve to come down heavily against all those who indulge in… crime against women,children… more so,if they do happen to be donning the uniform…”
