Truck mows down woman in N-E Delhi,driver arrested

A 35-year-old woman died after a truck ran over her while she was returning home with her niece in Northeast Delhi on Friday night.

A 35-year-old woman died after a truck ran over her while she was returning home with her niece in Northeast Delhi on Friday night. The truck driver has been arrested.

“The incident occurred in Nand Nagari around 10 pm on Friday. The woman,Shakuntala Devi,had gone to visit her brother,Vinod,in Gandhinagar that morning. She was returning to her house in Nandoli with her 14-year-old niece,Pratibha,when a truck hit them near Gagan Cinema,” an officer said.

The two were rushed to the GTB Hospital. While Pratibha was discharged after being treated for minor injuries,Shakuntala was declared dead on arrival. Shakuntala’s husband,Rajesh,is a temporary MCD employee.

“The truck driver,26-year-old Dinesh,is a resident of Nand Nagari. He has been arrested,and a case of rash driving and causing death due to negligence registered against him under Section 279 and 304(a) of the IPC,” the officer said.
