The Delhi Police arrested three men who allegedly shot dead a 30-year-old sex worker in a firing that took place at a brothel in Central Delhi’s GB Road early in March, officers said.
The police arrested the accused identified as Kaka, his brother Happy and Anil, during raids at Western Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
According to the police, the shooting in which a pimp identified as Imran, 28, was also injured took place on March 7. By the time the police reached the spot, the man and woman, who had received bullet injuries, were already shifted to LNJP Hospital.
“Kaka conspired with Happy and Anil to rob the sweet shop in Mayur Vihar where he used to work. Before executing the crime on March 7, they decided to go to the brothel on GB Road. The men picked up a scuffle with Imran at the brothel. In the melee, the woman intervened on seeing the men armed with a pistol,” said DCP (Central) Sanjay Sain.
When Imran and the woman tried to stop the men from fleeing the spot, Kaka fired indiscriminately at them, the DCP added.
The woman had sustained bullet injuries on the back of her neck while Imran was injured on the shoulder. The woman died during treatment, officials said.
The police scanned several CCTV footage and escape routes and quizzed the sex workers on GB Road to track down the accused, said an officer, who added that the trio confessed to the crime during interrogation. Anil got acquainted with Happy during their time in jail in Sangroor, the police said.
