A 40-year-old businessman was attacked outside his house by unidentified men in Malviya Nagar on Saturday. The assailants also took away a bag containing important business documents, such as the victim’s ledger book and a notebook containing information about his business contacts.

Ramesh Chand runs an electrical shop and also deals in wholesale trade in Malviya Nagar.

Two men followed Chand on a motorcycle as he returned to his house in Malviya Nagar’s B-Block around 8.30 pm on his motorcycle. They threatened him with a firearm and when he raised an alarm, they fired in the air to frighten him. Then they tried to snatch his bag and when he resisted, the assailants stabbed and injured him on his left arm,the police said.

Chand tried to alert his family members. “We found him bleeding. Neither could we note down the registration number of their motorcycle nor did we see their faces,as both were wearing helmets. They took away a bag,in which there were bill books and other documents related to the shop,” Veena Chand,Chand’s wife, said.

Chand was admitted to Max Hospital in Saket, where his condition is said to be stable after doctors operated on his arm.

While the police think personal enmity or business rivalry could be behind the attack, his family played this factor down. “We have never had any sort of enmity with anyone. We would not like to comment on this,” Chand’s daughter said.

A case has been registered under section 506 (criminal intimidation) and section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) at the Malviya Nagar police station.
