Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that the headquarters of the new corporations after trifurcation have been finalised.
The swanky Civic Centre will become the headquarters of South Delhi Municipal Corporation while the historic Town Hall will turn into the headquarters of North Delhi Municipal Corporation. The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) office in Patparganj Industrial Area will be the head office of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation. While announcing the new headquarters, the CM said there was no need to spend money on sprucing up these offices right now.
I have been informed that half of the 28-floor Civic Centre has been given to Income Tax office. The Civic Centre is huge and we believe that South Delhi Corporation office can easily be shifted here, Dikshit said. The decision regarding the headquarters of the three corporations comes at a time when councillors and officials were anxious to know which of the three will get housed in the Civic Centre built at a cost of Rs 500 crore in an area of 11.5 acres.
Commenting on the Town Hall,Dikshit said the historic building will once again become a power centre as the headquarters of the North Delhi Corporation. The Town Hall was the MCD headquarters for so many years. After the trifurcation,it will become alive again, said Dikshit.
Dikshit added that a building lying useless in East Delhi will double up as East Delhi Corporation office. An office building, which belongs to DSIIDC in East Delhi will become the East Delhi Corporation headquarters. We are waiting for the elections to get over. The buildings will soon be handed over to the three corporations, she said.
