Too close to PM convoy,MP stopped

A first-time Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress was stopped by security personnel when he tried to cross the security cordon laid for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh near Parliament on Thursday afternoon,the police said.

A first-time Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress was stopped by security personnel when he tried to cross the security cordon laid for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh near Parliament on Thursday afternoon,the police said.

The incident occurred around 12.25 pm at Vijay Chowk — Kalyan Banerjee is the Trinamool MP from Sreerampur and a prominent lawyer in West Bengal.

According to the police,Banerjee,headed for Parliament in his car,was stopped by police as they had already put up the security cordon for the Prime Minister’s convoy. Irked at being stopped,sources said Banerjee argued that he was also an MP and thus should be allowed to cross the security cordon.

Banerjee later alleged that some security personnel misbehaved with him even though he complied with their directions. “I was going to Parliament as I had to get a a security tag for my car,” he told reporters.
