To ‘prove love’,woman jumps off flyover in East Delhi Express News Service

A 25-year-old woman allegedly attempted suicide by jumping off the flyover in East Delhi’s Madhu Vihar area on Tuesday evening. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had an argument with her lover,who had refused to marry her. Police claimed he had asked her to prove her love for him by jumping off the flyover.

The woman fractured both legs and underwent surgery at the Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital on Tuesday.

According to police,the incident was reported at 6.45 pm. Police said the woman had been in a relationship for the past five years. Last year,the woman had returned to her hometown in Agra. Police said she had approached the man’s parents,asking them to allow the two to get married. The parents had reportedly refused because the two belonged to two different communities,police said.

A few days ago,one of the woman’s friends showed her a picture of the man with another woman. The man was engaged to that woman,police said.

On Tuesday,the woman came to Delhi to meet the man,who works in East Delhi.

Police said the two went to the Madhu Vihar flyover on the man’s motorcycle. There,the two had an argument after the woman asked him to marry her.

Police said the man asked her to prove her love. “He asked her if she could do anything for him. When he asked her if she could jump off the flyover to prove her love,she said she would and jumped off,” a senior police officer said.
