Fashion designer Suneet Varma turns dewy-eyed as he watches the last two decades of his career stretched out in the form of a photo exhibition on his creations. Called Eyes of the Beholder,the exhibition,comprising 34 photographs of models sporting his creations,is being held at DLF Emporio till today. It is a way to catalogue the history of the Indian fashion industry, says the designer,who has,down the years,collaborated with prominent names like Prabuddha Das Gupta,Tarun Khiwal,Bharat Sikka and Hemant Khandelwal,who have turned fashion photography into an art form.
The images on display,culled from Vermas personal collection,shows his flamboyant designs including his quirky spins to the sari. The models wearing the creations in the photographs range from the 1980s beauty Shyamolie Verma to Mehr Jesia and Madhu Sapre from the 1990s to the faces that fire up the imagination at present Ujjwala Raut and Fleur Xavier.
The design fraternity represented by Tarun Tahiliani,Ravi Bajaj,JJ Valaya and Shantanu and Nikhil poured in to appreciate the images over hors doeuvre and champagne at the opening on Saturday. Among those who pored over the pictures was Tikka Shatrujit Singh,advisor to the chairman,Louis Vuitton. (EFS)
