Three youths have been arrested for allegedly stabbing to death a 26-year-old Delhi Police constable, who put up resistance when they tried to rob him. The police zeroed in on the accused after tracing an eyewitness.

“Constable Harkesh Meena was murdered in Adarsh Nagar on the night of October 15 by 22-year-old Rudra Mani,26-year-old Sunil and 22-year-old Rohit Kumar when he resisted their robbery attempt,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Meenu Choudhury. Besides deploying secret informers in Bhadola and Jahangirpuri, police constituted several teams to work out the case.

The “eyewitness” was returning home on his bicycle when he saw the youths stabbing the policeman. “He described one of the accused accurately and informed the police that the attackers were trying to rob the constable. Following this,we zeroed in on Rudramani, who was absconding,” a police officer said.

“On the day of the incident, some of the informers saw blood on Rudramani clothes. Yesterday,we arrested him from a fruit market in Azadpur,” said Choudhury.

Sunil was arrested from his house in Bhalaswa, while he was trying to flee with his family. Kumar was arrested at the Samaipur Badli bus stand.

“Rudramani said he was in need of money as his brother was getting married next month. Sunil,on the other hand, needed money to pay his rent. Their plan to make some quick money ended with the constable getting killed,” said Choudhury.
