Police on Saturday arrested three persons for cheating people on the pretext of providing domestic helps to households across the country.
Police on Saturday arrested three persons for cheating people on the pretext of providing domestic helps to households across the country. The accused have been identified as Jai Prakash,Vinod and Bharat,all residents of Uttam Nagar.
Police received a complaint from S K Rathi,a resident of Vasant Kunj,claiming that a help provided by the agency had stolen money from the house. “Rathi told us that he had contacted the Archana Maid Bureau after seeing a pamphlet. The next day,one of the accused approached him along with a woman identified as Suneeta. He dropped the help at the house and took Rs 18,000 as commission. The very next morning,the help escaped after stealing some money from the house,” said DCP (South) Chhaya Sharma. Similar cases of domestic helps stealing money had also been reported,she added.
Police soon discovered that none of the mobile numbers printed on the pamphlet were active,and the SIM cards had been obtained through fake identities. “Upon investigating,we discovered that the calls had been made from Nawada and Uttam Nagar areas. Soon,we zeroed on the gang members and nabbed them,” Sharma said.
Police said the accused had around 8-10 persons in their gang,all from Bihar and the Northeast. The mastermind,Bharat,used to get fake pamphlets and visiting cards printed to fool the public,they added.
The police recovered eight mobile phones,20 mobile chips,letter pads bearing agreements with various bogus agencies,rubbers stamps and several visiting cards from their possession.
