The Fashion Frenzy Begins

JJ Valaya,who celebrates 20 years in fashion,will show the Grand Finale collection at WIFW Autumn-Winter 2012.

2012 is a special year for Delhi-based designer JJ Valaya. Not only has he completed 20 years in the fashion industry,but he has also bagged the Grand Finale show at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2012 (WIFW),the first fashion week this year. To be held at Pragati Maidan from February 15-19,WIFW will have 138 designers and 48 models.

“In all these years,this is the second time that Valaya is closing the fashion week. What better way than this to celebrate 20 years of his involvement in fashion,” says Sunil Sethi,president,Fashion Design Council of India. Designers Shantanu-Nikhil will open the WIFW.

The list of designers showcasing at WIFW Autumn-Winter 2012 has belted out no shocks — Rohit Bal,Manish Malhotra,Tarun Tahiliani,Gaurav Gupta,Kavita Bhartia and Kotwara by Meera Ali are in the line-up. Most of them are regulars at WIFW.

Fourteen new names have made it to the fashion week this year,and will showcase their creations on the runway and stalls. “This year,the designers will be part of a few Corporate Social Responsibility activities too,” says Sethi.

A few designers are also going to get experimental with venues,choosing different ramps to showcase their collections. Bal has selected Cibo,Hotel Janpath,for his show on February 15 while Tahiliani will turn Blue Frog,Mehrauli,into his runway on February 16.
