A 14-year-old boy reportedly planned his own kidnapping to force his parents into shelling out money for a trip to Mumbai.
The police said the incident was reported from Anand Vihar, where the boy lives with his parents.
His parents are very strict. The boy wanted to go to Mumbai and hatched the plan with two of his school friends. He made a ransom call to his parents and asked for Rs one lakh. Scared, his parents approached us, an officer said.
During their probe, the police came to know that the call was made from an STD booth; the owner told them three children had come to the booth on Sunday. After this, the police took the boys phone, which he had left at home, and scrutinised his call details.
