In a breakthrough in the case of the 14-year-old-girl who had brought a two-year-old child with serious injuries to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, three persons were arrested on Wednesday.
Investigations have revealed that the girl suffered a traumatic experience after the death of her mother six years ago. Her father,an alcoholic, had abused her and when she ran away from home, she was sexually exploited and forced to marry an elderly man, police said.
Sandeep Pandey (32) and his wife Pooja were arrested from Southeast Delhi for allegedly pushing the 14-year-old into prostitution. Police are probing if the couple operated an organised prostitution racket.
The girls father Jatinder Gupta was also arrested for abusing and not taking proper care of the girl.
The three were arrested from Govindpuri and Tughlakabad areas, after the victim,in her statement to the Child Welfare Committee on Tuesday, disclosed that she was exploited physically by the couple after she left her home because of her fathers behaviour.
Ajay Chaudhary,Additional Commissioner of Police (Southeast),said,We will question the couple to find out if they have exploited other girls too. Rajkumar (who handed her the child) is yet to be arrested. Once he is caught,it will help us in identifying the mother of the two-year-old child.
Police have learnt that after running away from home in June 2010,the 14-year-old met a woman near Bangla Sahib Gurdwara. Police sources said the victim knew the woman as she had an extra-marital affair with her father.
The woman took the girl to Poojas house, who forced her into prostitution. Pandey,a labourer, also raped the girl when she refused to marry an elderly man in Etah,Uttar Pradesh.
Police said Pooja, who earlier worked at a red light district in Kolkata, mistreated the girl and took her to Etah where she was forced to marry. The girl was later brought to Delhi.
Police said that after returning to Delhi, the girl was sexually exploited by the couple and sent to clients in South Delhi. Later, she met Rajkumar. They married four months ago.
We are on the lookout for some more people involved in the case, said Chaudhary.
Police said the girl has not levelled any allegations against Rajkumar, but since he had married a minor and had a physical relationship with her,he would face criminal charges.
