THE search for a missing 19-year-old girl by Mumbai Police ended Wednesday with the arrest of her 34-year-old abductor in New Delhi. The accused,Mandappa Singh,is also wanted by police of three states in several cases of robbery and kidnapping and by CBI in a forgery case. The girl has been reunited with her family,police said.
Singh has been booked for rape,abduction and threatening to kill. He has a reward of Rs 11 lakh announced on him by Jaipur police after he went absconding in 2010.
Oshiwara police said a Lokhandwala resident approached them in February after her 19-year-old daughter,a model,went missing. The girl was located when she switched on her cellphone last week,with the mobile location showing New Delhi. On April 30,Oshiwara police found the girl in a New Delhi flat with Singh.
She told us she was acquainted with Singh through a social networking site and later met him in Andheri. She says she was threatened and was taken to New Delhi. She was also allegedly raped by him and he threatened to circulate her obscene pictures online, said an officer. In New Delhi she was made to share a room with another girl who Singh had similarly kidnapped,police said. Before going to New Delhi,Singh had taken the girl to places such as Pune,Nashik,Hyderabad,Punjab,Bangalore and made her meet several men on coffee dates fixed online. For each coffee date,Singh would charge Rs 5,000 for an hour from the clients, said the officer.
Singh is wanted in at least 40 cases of robbery,kidnapping,cheating to attempt to murder in cities such as Jaipur,Delhi,Bangalore and Mumbai. Singh is also an accused in a Rs 6-crore cheating case in Navi Mumbai. A probe is on, said inspector Ravindra Patil.
