Accused recorded his sexual escapades, say police; many films suggest he ‘forced himself on the girls’

A 26-year-old software professional was arrested last week on charges of allegedly raping a law graduate in his 1,South Avenue house in Maharani Bagh on April 18.

Police sources said accused Dushyant Verma — son of a hotelier who owns Delhi Mishtaan Bhandar — is a software engineer with an IT firm in Gurgaon.

His victim,a 23-year-old LLB graduate, has also told the police that Verma filmed the rape — though officers said they are yet to come across the clipping.

However,Verma’s laptop reveals a story of sleaze,as officers have found three films showing the accused having sex with three different women. In addition to that, officers have also come across a volume of pornographic content downloaded from the Internet.

A senior officer said: “We are trying to trace these women. It is also unclear whether Verma forced himself on the women or whether the acts were with consent.”

However, this recent statement is slightly different from the notings on the remand paper of the case. When Verma was in police custody for two days last week, officers had clearly stated in the remand paper that some of the films suggest Verma had “forced himself on the girls”.

The remand paper — a copy of which is with Newsline — states “there is a huge collection of films recorded in the laptop. Now,many such files are to be opened with the help of the accused and he has to identify the names and addresses of girls because in many recordings ‘he has forced himself on the girls’”.

However,it has been 10 days since the case was registered at the New Friends Colony police station, but the police are yet to send the seized mobile and laptop for a forensic check. Officers have also said Verma might have deleted the footage of the alleged rape.

In her FIR,the law student has claimed she met Verma in April this year. On April 18 he asked her to join him for lunch. The girl’s complaint states: “I called and asked him which restaurant he wanted to go to. He invited me to his residence and claimed he had already ordered the food. I told him I was not comfortable visiting his house, but he insisted. When I reached his house,he sent his domestic help to get us Chinese food. He offered me wine, but I declined. Then he started forcing himself on me. I warned him,but he kept at it.”

Officers said the girl called a taxi in some time. “I did not know his house number and the taxi operator said it would take about half an hour. Dushyant offered to drop me and I accepted, since I wanted to get away as soon as possible. He then threatened me not to tell anyone about the incident as he had filmed me,” the victim stated in the FIR. Despite her requests,Verma did not stop the car on the way,the victim told the police. However, when the car slowed down at an intersection, she jumped out and went home in an auto.

Officers said Verma continued to abuse her on phone. He called her, reminded her of the video and asked her to meet him, police sources said.

But a day later,on April 19,the girl told her sister about the incident. Her sister narrated the crime to a non-government organisation. The organisation members then escorted the victim to the police station where a case was registered on April 20. Verma, who was arrested immediately,is now in judicial custody. Meanwhile, the medical examination of the girl has confirmed rape. Officers also said the girl’s gynaecologist had mentioned there were several injuries in her private parts.

The girl, who is originally from Shillong and lives in the city with her sister,is determined to pursue legal action against Verma — “so that he could never do the same thing to another woman”,she says in the first line of her complaint.
