Central district police on Saturday registered a case under sections of the Pocso Act and Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC against a teacher of a public school who had allegedly been harassing a student of Class VII.
Police said the teacher, identified as Vinod, used to take computer science classes in the school in Central district where a 14-year-old girl alleged that she was being harassed by him. The girl complained to her parents a couple of days ago that the teacher used to stare at her. The parents then informed other students’ parents and, on Saturday, they together approached the school to take action against the teacher.
“The parents told me that he had filmed a video of her sitting in the classroom on his mobile phone and also tried to lock himself and her inside a classroom on one occasion. In fact, there was another set of parents who came forward today saying their daughter complained about the teacher making her feel uneasy in the class,” Rahul Bhisht, a parent and a member of the parent-teacher association of the school, said.
“We have registered a case and are taking down the girl’s statement on the basis of which we will investigate the case and take proper action,” DCP (central) Paramaditya said.
Around 200 angry parents gathered outside the school on Saturday, demanding a probe and action against the teacher.
