Your passion for the martial arts is well known. But what made you take up 100%-De Dhana Dhan?
I am particularly passionate about tae-kwon-do but my enthusiasm extends to all sports. When I received a call from the production house for a sports-based show,it got me excited. The concept of having Indian wrestlers compete against South African wrestlers is unique and helps encourage the sport in the country. Hence,it falls into my scheme of things.
What does your role as an anchor on the show expect you to do?
Unlike what you may perceive, being an anchor on 100% does not require me to comment. In fact,Mohan Kapoor will be the commentator. My role is a lot more complex and wields immense power. I play the coordinator between the two teams in terms of the language. I am expected to notice and observe the games, the performances and help bridge the gap between all parties the audience, the two teams and the producers.
Have you always been a fan of the sport?
Ill be honest; I never watched WWF or WWE on television earlier. But the show has had me hooked and Im thoroughly enjoying the sport.
Then did you have to learn everything about the game from scratch?
Yes and now I know all the moves, all the rules and all the players. I know the charkha from a brain buster and a choke slam from a drop kick. It wasnt tough since the terminology of this sport,as you can see,is pretty symbolic.
Did you have any second thoughts before taking up 100% since it is an alternate medium of entertainment?
Television today is at par with films and no more means your bye-bye ticket from movies. Competent actors with successful film careers also simultaneously do television. After all,the medium has a huge reach and offers immense variety.
On the film front,Ram Gopal Varmas Shabri is still awaiting release.
I think he should release Shabri this October. Other than that,I am doing two movies for Mukta Arts and reading scripts. I know I have been missing from the scene and this sounds clichéd but the fact is that when you want to leap higher, you have to take two steps back.
Has 100% caused the delay in yours and hotelier beau Timmy Narangs wedding plans?
Firstly our wedding was never slated for October.
Secondly,I will never compromise my personal life for work or mix the two.
