The Delhi Police questioned Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and five others, in connection with the murder of his wife Sunanda Puskhar, for over five hours at the Vasant Vihar AATS (anti-auto theft squad) office on Thursday.

Among the five persons who were questioned along with Tharoor were his two domestic helps, Bajrangi and Narain. Apart from them, Sunanda’s close friend Sanjay Diwan, whose name cropped during Narain’s questioning, was also quizzed. The other two were Sunil Takru, with whom Pushkar had come to the hotel on the day she died, and Vikas Ahlawat.

According to sources, the SIT analysed the statements of several people they had questioned in the past and made a list of questions based on that. Police reportedly told Tharoor that the statements given by others have given them crucial leads and that they needed further clarifications from him.

Sources said the five people were questioned on their last meeting with Pushkar and were once again asked to recall their last conversations with her. Sources said Tharoor was also questioned about  the injury marks that were found on Pushkar’s body.

After over five hours, they were allowed to leave. However, police said they may be called in again. Sources said Tharoor was called back again for questioning around 10 pm on Thursday for further clarifications.

Meanwhile, sources said DCP (South) Prem Nath has gone to the US to submit Pushkar’s visceral samples to an FSL lab for testing. “We did not send the samples by air. The DCP has gone to the US so that the integrity of the evidence is not hampered in any way,” a source said.

The DCP will remain in the US till doctors give him a first-hand opinion on the samples. According to sources, Nath has also been asked to study how the Washington Police functions and how the carry out investigations.

Sources said Nath will be spending time with investigative teams, forensics experts and the special branch in Washington. He will be asked to submit a report once he returns.
